The first ever Canterbury leg of the Sarapu Cup for Chess was played in Christchurch on Sunday (Ortvin Sarapu is a former NZ Chess Champion, often regarded as the "father" of NZ Chess). The College fielded two competitors, Aidan Soal and Brendan Fleming. Popular in Wellington and Auckland this tournament is run monthly with a Championship final weekend in Auckland in December. Brendan played through his 7 games unbeaten, winning on the day and only conceding half a point to the second placed player from Timaru. Aidan dropped two matches to finish third.
The next tournament will be held during the first weekend in November.
